Special thanks to SweetJunkie for their donation of sugar mice for our 'Splat the Rat' game. They were very popular! SweetJunkie are based in Harleston and stock a large selection of sugar mice, retro sweets and sugar free sweets.
It is great to see that the Barrel Fair has raced (down and up again!) to number seven in The Times best silly events list!
A long day ahead!
The Barrel Fair events started on Wednesday night with Doc Cox's music quiz. Almost eighty people turned up and took part in a great night. On Thursday evening there was a showing of the classic Hitchcock film 'The 39 Steps'. This took place on the village green, with a very pleasing turnout.
Not as easy as it looks!
The weekend's events started with a children's disco on Saturday night, organised and run by Westleton's answer to John Peel, DJ Damian Evans.
This was followed by 'Westleton's Got Talent'. Nine acts took part, and all thoroughly entertained the audience. The acts were Hester Clutterbuck, Tom Williams, Ellie Dutton, Harry Jones, Julia Jones, Hannah Curtis, Ian Eames-Bayton, Michael Coombes and Shannon Cuthill. The closely fought competition was eventually won by Hannah Curtis, who took home the coveted trophy. The evening finished with a blistering performance from Westleton's very own band, The Travelling Nobodies.
A Travelling Nobody!
The Barrel Fair itself opened at eleven o'clock the next day, with an official opening by Rob Dunger from Radio Suffolk. He was ably assisted by Jim Homersham, the Westleton town crier, and this year's maid and squire, Mollie and Jim Shaw. A great afternoon of racing took place, as well as some fantastic performances by a variety of singers and performers. The weather was beautiful throughout the day. For a full list of winners, please go to the 'Winners' page.
Although the final figure has yet to be confirmed, it looks as if the event has raised over £4000!
Oyez, oyez, now hear this...
